SCALP HEALTH

Novachis Salon introduces new services for scalp care

It has long been known that a good skin care routine is vital to healthy, glowing skin. Such a routine typically includes gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and exfoliation. Most importantly to skin health is sun protection, a critical step in the skin care process that provides a barrier against the harmful impacts of the environment. What is not as commonly known is that scalp care is equally as important to the health of your skin and hair. Your scalp is highly susceptible to the harm that the environment can cause and requires care to repair damage and promote overall health. Consider that your scalp is an extension of your face and therefore deserves the same type of good care regimen that you provide to your skin.

Before establishing a scalp care routine, it is important to understand how the scalp is structured differently from the skin on your face. Your scalp has a higher concentration of sebaceous glands, which are responsible for the production of oil and sweat. The scalp also has a lower barrier function than the face. This means that the skin of the scalp can often struggle to maintain and replenish hydration levels. When your scalp is healthy, it is ph-balanced and has a healthy stratum corneum, which strengthens the barrier function, maintains hydration, and protects against external microorganisms. If the scalp is not adequately cared for, this delicate balance in the barrier can shift, resulting in hair that is slow to grow and more prone to damage and breakage.

The best way to avoid the problems associated with an unhealthy scalp is to develop a scalp care regimen that is tailored to your unique needs. We recommend that this begin with a professional salon scalp treatment, which nourishes your scalp and creates a healthy foundation for hair growth. A scalp treatment includes a diagnostic assessment using a specialized microscope followed by a customized treatment plan. Preparation for the scalp treatment then begins with gentle exfoliation, which helps to remove excess sebum and unclog follicle buildup, and massage, which stimulates blood flow to your scalp. Following the preparation stage is the application of your individualized treatment. At Novachis Salon, we use a customized combination of Galvanic and High Frequency treatments:

  • Galvanic treatment introduces a low level, direct current to the scalp, creating a gentle electrical charge which results in the continuous flow of electrons. This bioelectricity is applied for two primary functions: (1) to deep clean the pores of the scalp, which creates a healthy environment for hair growth; and (2) to use ionic penetration to improve blood circulation and increase hydration and skin rejuvenation.

  • High frequency treatment, which is known for its germicidal, energizing, and stimulating benefits, uses ultraviolet and high-frequency rays. This process boosts blood supply to the hair follicles, drawing nutrients to the roots and encouraging hair growth. Ultimately, this stimulation through frequency improves the cell turnover rate, helping to minimize dandruff, keep the scalp healthy, and maintain overall hair health.

A customized scalp treatment leads to visible results that you will likely want to maintain. The frequency with which you receive a treatment depends on a number of variables, including hair type, scalp health, and lifestyle, but we generally recommend doing so on a monthly basis for optimal results. If your primary goal is hair regrowth, it is beneficial to receive a treatment as often as two times a week. Additionally, to maintain results in between treatments, we encourage you to introduce an at-home scalp care routine that includes shampooing and conditioning with a self-administered scalp massage at least three times a week.
